Title: Security in the DRC: Spain calls on Rwanda to immediately end its support for M23
During a meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister in charge of National Defense and Veterans Affairs, Jean-Pierre Bemba, the Spanish Ambassador to the DRC, Carlos Robles Fraga, reaffirmed the importance of stability and territorial integrity in the DRC. During this meeting, the security situation in the east of the country was at the center of discussions.
Carlos Robles Fraga expressed his support for efforts to respect the sovereignty of the DRC and its territorial integrity as well as the agreements on the future of the M23 and its cantonment. The Spanish diplomat also called on Rwanda to immediately cease its support for the M23 supported by Paul Kagame and underlined the importance of respecting the Luanda roadmap.
It should be noted that the issue of security in the DRC has been of concern in recent years, particularly in the east of the country. This region is the scene of several armed conflicts where local and foreign armed groups clash for the control of natural resources.
In this context, it is essential that the neighboring countries of the DRC, in particular Rwanda, support the efforts to stabilize the region and the search for lasting solutions to the conflicts raging there. This will notably require respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of this great Central African country.
Spain is one of the member countries of the European Union which supports the efforts of several organizations within the framework of the stabilization of the DRC. The reaffirmation of its support in this area is therefore a strong signal for the international community which is working to stabilize the DRC.
