The Democratic Republic of Congo organized its 10th summit dedicated to peace and security in the east of the country, in collaboration with the Republic of Sudan. The members of the government, including the Deputy Prime Minister of Defense Jean-Pierre Bemba and the Minister of State in charge of regional cooperation, Antipas Mbusa Nyamwisi, discussed with the experts to put in place the various points at the agenda.
During the discussions, the experts asked for a presentation of the security situation characterized by the observance of the ceasefire by the farc. They also insisted on the need to revitalize the P-DDRCS and urged the government to respect the recommendations of the EAC for the pretrial to be carried out in Rumangabo and the cantonment in Kindu in Maniema.
On the other hand, the issue of the humanitarian situation was also discussed during the summit. The population of eastern DRC has faced massive displacement, which has increased their vulnerability to the deterioration of their social condition. The experts therefore recommended actions to protect civilians who are in difficulty.
This summit is proof that the Democratic Republic of Congo is determined to find lasting solutions to restore peace and security in the east of the country. With the collaboration of the Republic of Sudan, these discussions will undoubtedly lead to significant progress for the region.
