The security situation is currently a major concern in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The country’s political opposition, represented by the Front Commun pour le Congo (FCC), has vigorously denounced the government’s security policy as a resounding failure.
In an official statement, the FCC pointed to the notorious inability of the government to preserve the integrity of the national territory, guarantee the security of people and their property, as well as maintain peace and order in the country. For the opposition, the precarious security situation is aggravated by irresponsible diplomacy by President Félix Tshisekedi and his allies.
The East of the country, in particular, is considered to be a very conflict zone. The regional force of member countries of the East African Community, deployed in the region to control areas formerly occupied by M23 terrorists, has drawn criticism from the political opposition. This regional force saw its mandate extended by three months despite tensions with the Kinshasa government.
In the west, the Teke-Yaka community in Kwamouth territory, Mai-ndombe, is facing a brutal inter-ethnic conflict that has spread to other provinces of the country. According to some sources, this conflict is fueled by political actors who seek to take advantage of the situation for their own economic interests.
In addition to security issues, the opposition also criticizes the instrumentalization of the judiciary to serve the interests of the regime, as well as corruption and the embezzlement of public funds.
Overall, the security situation in the DRC is very worrying. The country’s authorities are called upon to act responsibly and work with all parties to find lasting solutions to these problems.
