“DRC: the National Dynamics of Women Candidates encourages political parties to respect parity on the lists of candidates for the legislative elections”

The national legislative elections in the DRC are scheduled for June 25, and the National Dynamics of Women Candidates pleads for the effective alignment of women on the party lists, with a view to respecting the new electoral law of June 2022 which exempts from the payment of the guarantee the parties which will respect the parity on their lists. Indeed, the representation of women on the lists of political parties and groups is of great concern to this organization, which has compiled a directory of future women candidates to facilitate their alignment on the party lists.

DYNAFEC provides political parties and political groups with a directory of women candidates. This initiative was carried out at the provincial level with the support of UN Women and the means available. The month of June is decisive for the 2023 election year, and DYNAFEC encourages women to take the step and approach political parties.

The distribution of seats by constituency and by type of ballot for legislative, provincial, municipal and local elections has just been adopted and promulgated in the Democratic Republic of Congo. However, this adoption was made without the elected representatives of the opposition who had boycotted all the plenaries relating to the examination of this bill. Despite everything, political actors are called upon to give priority to the general interest and to show dialogue and collaboration to ensure peaceful elections.

With each electoral cycle, the same landscape emerges in the DRC, with the same reactions. With many challenges to overcome, especially security challenges, Carine Kanku, national coordinator of DYNAFEC, urges political actors to surpass themselves and put the general interest forward to facilitate the electoral process.

In short, the question of the representation of women on the lists of political parties and groups is of great concern to the National Dynamics of Women Candidates, which encourages political parties to significantly align women on their lists of candidates. This initiative will certainly contribute to facilitating compliance with the new electoral law in the DRC, which exempts the parties that will apply parity on their lists of candidates from paying the deposit.
