Visit of Cardinal Luis António Tagle to Goma for a mission of peace and reconciliation
The city of Goma will welcome the visit of Cardinal Luis António Tagle, envoy of Pope Francis for a mission of peace and reconciliation. This visit is eagerly awaited by the people of Goma, especially after the cancellation of the visit of the sovereign pontiff last February for security reasons.
Cardinal Tagle’s message will focus on peace, reconciliation and forgiveness, in response to the various conflicts and social fractures that have affected the region in recent years.
The Bishop of Goma, Msgr. Willy Ngumbi, called on the population to come in large numbers to listen to this message of peace and reconciliation, which will be delivered on June 13 at the Mont Carmel church. He also reassured the inhabitants about the security measures put in place for the occasion.
Despite the threats hanging over the city of Goma, in particular with the presence of armed groups and war refugees, the bishop wanted to be reassuring by affirming that security will be there. The government has also deployed the armed forces to accompany this visit, in order to guarantee the safety of all citizens.
This visit by Cardinal Tagle is a hope for the people of Goma, who aspire to lasting peace in the region. Its mission of reconciliation and forgiveness is a concrete response to the violence that has divided the region in recent years.
