“The revival of fishing in the DRC: The new ONPA leaders promise a significant increase in fish production”

The new leaders of the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Office (ONPA) in the Democratic Republic of Congo were recently received by the Minister of Fisheries and Livestock, Adrien Bokele Djema. This meeting follows their appointment by the Head of State Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo, as part of the reforms aimed at reviving the fishing sector in the DRC.

ONPA, as a technical body, will play a key role in increasing the country’s fisheries and aquaculture production, as well as in promoting the associated value chain. It will be responsible for organizing the supply of fishing inputs, materials and equipment, as well as the collection and distribution of fishing products throughout the national territory.

In addition to this, the ONPA will be responsible for setting up fishing and aquaculture infrastructure, contributing to better processing and conservation of products, organizing marketing and market access, and participating scientific research applied to fisheries and aquaculture.

For Minister Adrien Bokele Djema, the creation of the ONPA is the vision of the President of the Republic, who wishes to relaunch the fishing sector in order to ensure the food self-sufficiency of the Congolese. He expects the new animators of the Office to work effectively and efficiently in the short and long term to achieve this objective.

ONPA Board Chairwoman Henriette Wamu expressed her gratitude to the Head of State for his appointment and pledged to work for the well-being of Congolese, in line with the President’s vision .
