The DRC fights against illicit financial flows from Africa to preserve its economy

The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has long faced illicit financial flows from Africa, a phenomenon that has serious consequences for its economy. The current government has become aware of the extent of the problem and has decided to put in place measures to guard against it.

President Félix Tshisekedi thus welcomed the initiative of the Agency for the Prevention and Fight against Corruption (APLC) to have organized a workshop on the evaluation of the implementation of the recommendations of the high level group of the African Union on Illicit Financial Flows from Africa. He also asked for the establishment of an interministerial committee to fight against this scourge and prevent the DRC from becoming the epicenter of these practices.

It is important to point out that the losses caused by illicit financial flows on the African continent are estimated at around 90 billion dollars. These losses have disastrous consequences for the economies of African countries, especially the DRC, which is significantly exposed to this phenomenon.

The Congolese government has therefore taken measures to counter illicit financial flows from Africa in order to preserve its public revenues. The President instructed the Minister of Finance to speed up the establishment of the inter-ministerial committee in order to fight effectively against the scourge. The APLC is also called upon to help with this process.

Effectively combating illicit financial flows from Africa is essential to preserve the economies of African countries and allow them to develop in a sustainable manner. The DRC has become aware of this issue and is taking action to deal with it. It is hoped that the measures taken by the Congolese government will significantly reduce the economic losses caused by this scourge.
