“Minister of Mines suspends mining activities of Boss Mining following environmental pollution”

The Minister of Mines, Antoinette N’Samba Kalambayi, took a radical decision following the environmental pollution caused by the company Boss Mining. Indeed, it has temporarily suspended all mining activities of this company for a period of 3 months. If nothing is done to stop the pollution during this period, the suspension may be renewed.

According to an official communication, the suspension occurs pursuant to Article 570, paragraph 2 of the Mining Regulations. The Minister also invites the Secretary General for Mines to take measures to repair the damage suffered by the communities following these incidents.

Boss Mining is a mining company specializing in the production of copper cathodes and cobalt concentrates. It is located in KAKANDA, former mining site of Gécamines in the District of Lubudi, about 60 km from the town of LIKASI.

This suspension shows that the government takes the environmental impact of mining companies very seriously and is ready to take drastic measures to protect the environment and local communities. However, this must be applied consistently to avoid unfairly penalizing companies that comply with environmental standards.

Overall, it also shows the importance of strict enforcement of environmental regulations to protect our planet and the communities that depend on it.
