Article: Collective commemoration of the National Day of Tribute to victims of conflict-related sexual violence and other serious crimes in the Democratic Republic of Congo on August 2, 2023 in Kinshasa.
On August 2, 2023, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) celebrates the National Day of Tribute to Victims of Conflict-Related Sexual Violence and Other Serious Crimes. A collective commemoration is organized in Kinshasa in order to pay tribute to the victims and to sensitize public opinion to this problem.
This day, entitled “Genocost”, is instituted by the National Fund for Reparations for Victims of Conflict-Related Sexual Violence and Victims of Crimes Against the Peace and Security of Humanity (FONAREV). It aims to pay tribute to the victims of sexual violence linked to the conflicts in the DRC as well as to the people who have brought them assistance. FONAREV calls for a general mobilization of the Congolese population for this commemoration.
The commemoration will take place in three emblematic places in Kinshasa: the Place des Evolués (Gombe), the Victoire roundabout (Kalamu) and the reinforced concrete wall (Mont Ngafula). From 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., the population is invited to gather in a spirit of national solidarity to honor the victims and express their support.
At the same time, an official ceremony is scheduled at the OAU city from 10 am to 12 pm, in the presence of officials. This ceremony will highlight the importance of the fight against conflict-related sexual violence and recall the government’s commitment to victims.
FONAREV, in charge of reparations for victims of conflict-related sexual violence, plays a key role in this commemoration. He encourages all Congolese to come together and work together to change the course of the country’s history. National solidarity is crucial to end this violence and ensure peace and security for all.
August 2 is an opportunity to recall the importance of access to justice, reparation, empowerment and recovery for victims and their families. FONAREV works actively to guarantee these rights and contribute to building a better future for the Congolese people.
Together we can make a difference
