“Vandalism at the headquarters of the New Elan: A call for justice and non-violence in politics”

The acts of vandalism suffered by the headquarters of the Nouvel Élan in Kinshasa in July 2023 aroused indignation and condemnation of the political formation. In a press release, Nouvel Élan vehemently denounced these barbaric behaviors which caused significant material damage and injured several people.

Nouvel Élan pointed out that the culprits of these acts of violence were present in the procession and the carnival heading for a meeting in the commune of N’djili, but they deliberately chose to attack their seats. The political formation declared that the perpetrators, both physical and intellectual, should be identified and punished in accordance with the law.

Le Nouvel Élan also expressed its disappointment with the authorities of the commune of Masina and the National Police for their lack of supervision of the procession, thus endangering the zone declared neutral. He also criticized the political leadership of ECIDÉ for its silence in the face of these acts of vandalism, stressing that such behavior is far from being a real commitment to citizenship.

In its statement, Nouvel Élan called for the amicable resolution of this incident, but indicated that in the absence of compensation, it reserved the right to seize the competent courts. He stressed that the evidence, such as the film of the acts of vandalism and the testimonies of the activists present, will be used to support their demand for justice.

In conclusion, Nouvel Élan urged its members and supporters to remain calm and refuse any revenge. He recalled that the real fight in politics is played on the confrontation of ideas and social projects, and that violence and low blows should never be tolerated.

This new editorial impetus offers a new perspective on acts of vandalism and highlights the importance of the peaceful confrontation of ideas in politics. The article also underlines the need to seek an amicable resolution while recalling that justice must be rendered to the perpetrators of these acts of violence
