Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is again at the center of discussions, as the country prepares for the 10th Summit dedicated to peace and security in the region. Government experts exchanged with the Deputy Prime Minister of Defense, Jean-Pierre Bemba, and the Minister of State in charge of Regional Cooperation, Antipas Mbusa Nyamwisi, to discuss the security and humanitarian situation in the Eastern DRC.
The question is topical and worrying for the Congolese, since the situation in the province of Ituri is very worrying, and that terrorist attacks are increasing in the Eastern region. The members of the government made a presentation of the worrying security situation, characterized by armed attacks and non-respect of the ceasefire by the Congolese armed forces.
The humanitarian issue is also worrying, with the massive displacement of the population, which suffers the consequences of armed conflicts. The experts recommended measures for the protection of civilians, in particular those who have been displaced, in order to guarantee their safety and facilitate access to humanitarian relief.
In the context of current events in the DRC, it is important to emphasize that the situation in the country is complex, whether humanitarian, economic or political. Recent hot topics include calls for the suspension of the draft law on the distribution of seats, concerns about the restriction of access to social networks, or the stabilization of the Congolese currency on the official foreign exchange market.
In this difficult context, citizen movements, entrepreneurs, governors, security forces, as well as the international community, have an essential role to play in promoting peace, security and development in the DRC. Taking into account the humanitarian and security situation in the East should be one of the priorities for all stakeholders involved in building a stable and prosperous DRC.
