Hearing of MP Daniel Safu: The temporary committee summons the elected representative of Together for the Republic
National deputy Daniel Safu, elected from Together for the Republic, will be heard by the temporary committee at the Banqueting Hall of the Palais du Peuple, on Monday June 5, 2023, at 11 a.m. sharp. This was announced by the vice-president of the commission, Mahindo Scolastique About, in a press release published on Saturday, June 3. The temporary commission will question the elected official on messages and remarks of incitement to tribal hatred which would have been propagated during a television program in Kinshasa.
The deputy is in fact accused, along with his colleague Mike Mukebayi, also elected provincial deputy from the same political party, of having made these remarks after the march repressed by the police in Kinshasa on 20 May. This march was organized by Together for the Republic alongside other opposition groups.
As a reminder, Mike Mukebayi was arrested and is currently in detention at Makala Central Prison. This affair provoked reactions from the population, who demanded the release of the provincial deputy. Some voices have also been raised to denounce an attack on freedom of expression.

However, the restriction of access to social media in the DRC raises concerns about freedom of expression and democracy in the country. The citizens’ movements have thus called for the suspension of the bill on the distribution of seats, denouncing a “forcing” of the government.
Faced with these many challenges, the DRC must work to stabilize its troubled regions and ensure that national and international justice can be rendered, as underlined by the Governor of Ituri
