“Issue of duplicate voter cards in the DRC: a free initiative to facilitate and guarantee the right to vote”

Issuance of duplicate voter cards – A new CENI initiative to facilitate voting

The Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is launching an operation to gradually issue duplicate voter cards. This initiative aims to meet the needs of electors who have lost their card or whose writings have faded over time.

In a recent interview with Radio Okapi, Jean-Baptiste Itipo, communications director of the CENI, explained that this operation is intended to facilitate the participation of all citizens in the electoral process. He stressed that the issuance of duplicates will be free, in order to guarantee fair access to this essential document for exercising the right to vote.

Jean-Baptiste Itipo also appealed to public and private services as well as to people who have found lost voter cards. He invites them to drop them off at the CENI headquarters during working days. This approach aims to recover lost cards and return them to their rightful owners.

The issuance of duplicate voter cards is an important step in the electoral process in the DRC. It makes it possible to guarantee equitable access to the vote for all citizens, and to prevent possible fraud linked to the loss or wear and tear of original cards.

This initiative by the CENI demonstrates its commitment to ensuring transparent and inclusive elections. By facilitating the issuance of duplicates, it allows a greater number of citizens to participate actively in the democratic life of the country.

In conclusion, the issuance of duplicate voter cards by the CENI is a welcome measure that promotes the participation of all citizens in the electoral process in the DRC. This free initiative aims to guarantee equitable access to the vote and to prevent fraud. It is therefore important that all voters affected by this operation go to the CENI headquarters to collect their duplicate and fully exercise their right to vote
