Title: “DRC: new deadly attack by suspected ADF fighters in the Beni region”
At least nine (9) people were killed on the night of Thursday, June 1 during a machete attack attributed to suspected ADF fighters, in the locality of Museya, in the Bashu chiefdom, in the territory of Beni in North- Kivu. The attack took place around 11 p.m. and several people were also seriously injured.
According to testimonies, the assailants attacked the victims directly in their homes before finishing them with machetes or executing them in their plots. The survivors fled to the bush for shelter.
This is the umpteenth attack of this kind attributable to ADF fighters in the Beni region and more particularly in the Bashu. On May 20, 16 civilians were killed in another massacre attributed to these same fighters.
The government must take steps to improve security in this region where civilians are regularly targeted. The citizens’ movements are also calling for the reduction of ADF personnel in order to ensure the stability of the region.
The DRC must work to stabilize its troubled regions and redouble its efforts to protect the civilian population from these horrific attacks
