“MP Grégoire Kiro Tsongo proposes a law to improve the public funding of political parties in the DRC”

Deputy of the city of Beni, Grégoire Kiro Tsongo presented a bill aimed at modifying and supplementing the law on public financing of political parties, a law of the year 2008 never applied. The motivation of the elected official is on the one hand the lack of political will and, on the other hand, the heaviness in the application of this text.

Indeed, the inter-institutional commission in charge of setting and regulating everything concerning the financing of political parties is made up of several ministries and institutions, but has never met since 2008, which then poses a real problem.

Faced with this situation, the deputy proposes that the commission be pruned so that the calculation is done in a simple arithmetic way, according to a formula that he has developed. This formula would allow each party to know its real political weight at the end of each election.

This is therefore a considerable step forward in the implementation of this law on the public funding of political parties, which could be beneficial for the country. It is to be hoped that this bill will be well received and discussed within decision-making bodies, to help strengthen democracy and transparency in Congolese politics.
