Duplicate voter cards available for free this Wednesday
In order to facilitate access to the vote for all Congolese citizens, the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) is launching an operation to issue duplicate voter cards for those who have lost them or whose writings have become illegible. According to Jean-Baptiste Itipo, communication director of the electoral center, this approach aims to guarantee the right to vote to all voters, by allowing them to obtain a new voter card if necessary.
The procedure for obtaining a duplicate voter card is relatively simple. In the event of loss of the card, the voter must go to a judicial police officer to obtain a report of loss. With this document, they must then go to the branch of the CENI corresponding to their registration center. On site, they will be able to fill out a duplicate request form, and if their registration is confirmed, they will receive a new voter’s card.
For those whose writing on the card has become illegible, simply go to the CENI branch with the defective card to obtain a replacement card.
Although the CENI invites public and private services as well as anyone in possession of lost voter cards to deposit them at the headquarters of the commission, it also warns against the networks of producers of false duplicates, thus calling on voters to remain vigilant.
This CENI initiative will allow Congolese voters to continue to exercise their right to vote, even in the event of loss or wear of their voter card. It thus contributes to strengthening democratic participation and guaranteeing transparent and fair elections. Citizens are therefore encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to ensure that they are prepared to play an active role in their country’s electoral process
