Land conflict in Lomami and Lualaba: disputed territory, growing tension

In the provinces of Lomami and Lualaba in the Democratic Republic of Congo, a land dispute has been raging for three months now. Lomami province and Lualaba province disagree over the management of certain localities, including Muana Muzanga, Kombo and Kapaku II.

According to information collected on the spot, the administrator of the territory of Kapanga would have delegated people to manage these localities located in the territory of Luilu in Lomami. However, some inhabitants of these areas accuse those of the Chiying groupement, in the territory of Kapanga in Lualaba, of repeated looting of their agricultural products and the burning of their homes. These acts are accompanied by threats of eviction, which arouses the indignation of the great chief of the chiefdom of Mulundu in the territory of Lului in Lomami, Fidao Binen A Binen.

The caucus of provincial deputies of Lomami affirms that the inhabitants of the localities in question were conscripted on behalf of their province. The file of this land conflict has also been sent to the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior for processing.

Despite Radio Okapi’s attempts to contact the administrator of Kapanga territory, no response was obtained. It would seem that the dialogue between the parties concerned is difficult to establish.
