The activities of the ninth Games of La Francophonie continue to be in full swing in Kinshasa, with a day marked by the start of the literature competition in the cultural section. The participating authors had the opportunity to present their works to the jury and the public, as part of an event open to the general public.
Among the authors present, we find Sewanou Théophile Vodounon from Benin with his work “The man who turns into iron”. Mariam Sere from Burkina Faso presented her short story entitled “Just five minutes”. Gioia Frolli from Burundi offered her new “Initiation” to the public. Irène Fernande Ekouta from Cameroon read her letter to Josiane. Pierre André Doucet from Canada-New Brunswick captivated the audience with “The Color of Greek Statues”. And finally, Grace Minlibe from Côte d’Ivoire shared her text entitled “Loverdose”.
Each reading was followed by comments from the jury, which also assigned a rating to each text. The authors captivated the audience with their passion and hard work. According to Émilie Prophet, writer and Minister of Culture and Communication of the Republic of Haiti, who chairs the jury, this reading session revealed all the liveliness of the French-speaking world.
The competition will continue over the next few days, with the expected presence of delegations from countries such as Djibouti, Gabon, France and Madagascar. The DRC candidate, Jocelyn Danga Motty, was absent in the country due to academic obligations in France. However, he submitted his text to the jury, which will also evaluate it.
The final of the literature competition will take place on August 1, after the last readings and presentations of the works. The first three will win the gold, silver and bronze medals respectively.
This literature competition is a unique opportunity to showcase Francophone literary talents and promote cultural diversity through words. It also gives authors the opportunity to share their stories and stir emotions in readers
