Introduction :
On July 29, 2023, the economic-sociopolitical elite of the “Grand Katanga” area met to pay a vibrant tribute to Jean de Dieu Nguz A Karl-I-Bond, former Prime Minister of the DRC (Ex Zaire). This tribute ceremony took place in the Notre-Dame de Fatima church in Kinshasa/Gombe, thanks to the collaboration between the family of the late Nguz A Karl-I-Bond and the Katangese Foundation. This moment of commemoration was an opportunity to recall the importance and legacy left by this emblematic politician.

A politician of conviction and passion:
Born in 1938 and died on July 27, 2003 in Kinshasa, Jean de Dieu Nguz A Karl-I-Bond held the post of Prime Minister under the Mobutu regime, twice. He was also Minister of Foreign Affairs during the 70s and 80s, leaving an indelible mark on national diplomacy. This politician was known for his passion for his country, his attachment to the unity of the Katangans and his fight for justice and development. He did not hesitate to denounce injustices, as evidenced by his work “MOBUTU or the incarnation of Zairian evil”, published during the Mobutian dictatorship.

A Mass of Thanksgiving:
During the thanksgiving mass, Professor Toussaint Tshilombo Send presented Jean de Dieu Nguz A Karl-I-Bond as a great politician of the DRC. The celebrant of the day, Father Yannick Eyenga, recalled that death is certainly sad, but that it is also a moment of serenity, confidence and hope for Christians. He also urged the audience to pay homage to the glorious men who are our ancestors and to perpetuate their memory for future generations.

The legacy of Jean de Dieu Nguz A Karl-I-Bond:
In his testimony, Nguz Jr referred to his father as a loving man, a great politician and statesman. He stressed the importance of remembering his legacy, based on passion for the country, respect and building a better future. The Katangese Foundation, which has joined forces with the family of Jean de Dieu Nguz A Karl-I-Bond for this commemoration, considers this former Prime Minister to be a model of courage and the fight against injustice.
