National Basketball Association (NBA) star Bismack Biyombo Sumba made a surprising visit to the city of Goma in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) recently. Despite the difficult security situation in the region, the basketball player was determined to provide support and encouragement to local young basketball players.
This initiative is not new for Biyombo, who is originally from Lubumbashi. Since 2011, he has regularly organized basketball events and matches in Goma, with the aim of inspiring and motivating young talent in the region. This year is no exception, and the NBA player visited the Biyombo stadium, which he himself helped to promote. He also attended several matches of the Goma men’s and women’s teams.
Asked by the press, Biyombo explained his motivation: “Our mission has always been to help and support young people as much as possible. We take this opportunity to celebrate these young people because the future of this country belongs to them. and of this world. That’s why we try to bring them together and do something for them. The young people of Goma are courageous, positive and work hard!”
This visit of Biyombo to Goma is only one stage of his tour in the DRC. After finishing his visit in this city, he plans to travel to Bukavu, in the province of South Kivu, before ending his tour in Lubumbashi, in the province of Haut Katanga.
This initiative by Bismack Biyombo is commendable, as it offers valuable hope and motivation to young basketball players in the DRC, despite the difficulties they face. His commitment to youth and his support for the practice of sport are inspiring examples for all young Congolese who dream of succeeding in basketball.
Let’s hope that this visit of Biyombo to the DRC will encourage not only young basketball players, but also other personalities and organizations to invest in the development of sport and Congolese youth. The talent and the potential are present, it only remains to give them the means to flourish and shine on the international scene
