The IXᵉˢ Games of La Francophonie in Kinshasa: A symbol of solidarity and determination for the DRC

The IXᵉˢ Games of La Francophonie, which are currently being held in Kinshasa, were officially opened by Congolese President Félix Tshisekedi. In his opening speech, the President underlined the importance of the solidarity of Francophones with the Congolese people, who face many challenges, particularly in the east of the country.

Indeed, Félix Tshisekedi denounced the unjust aggression suffered by the Congolese in the east of the country, as well as the massive looting of their natural resources by armed and terrorist groups. He welcomed the presence of delegations from member countries of La Francophonie in Kinshasa, saying that it gives hope and strengthens the confidence of the Congolese in Francophone solidarity.

The Congolese President also underlined the importance of the Games of La Francophonie for the Democratic Republic of Congo. As the second French-speaking country in terms of number of speakers, after France, the DRC wishes to play a significant role within La Francophonie and to continue to promote the French language.

The Francophonie Games are for the Congolese the symbol of the vitality of the universal French-speaking family, as well as of their determination to build a collective future and to transmit it to future generations. Despite the difficulties linked to the organization of the event in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic and the security crisis, Felix Tshisekedi affirmed that all the conditions have been met to ensure the smooth running of the Games.

In conclusion, the IXᵉˢ Games of La Francophonie in Kinshasa are an opportunity for the DRC to show its determination to face the challenges it faces, while affirming its commitment to La Francophonie.
