Camp Lufungula: the social discontent of police families in Kinshasa.

The Lufungula camp in Kinshasa, in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), is the scene of social discontent among the families of the police officers, who risk being dislodged for the construction of a modern morgue next to the central hospital of the referential unit of the Congolese National Police, also located in the Lufungula camp. The authorities offered a sum of 500 USD to each family to leave the premises, which was accepted by some families, but refused by others who demanded 3,000 USD. The families who refused the sum showed their anger by burning tires on the Avenue des Huileries, disrupting traffic for a short time.

This space which serves as their accommodation is occupied by 40 households according to their dismemberment carried out by the SGI, and the cooperation of the PNC and the NGO ASPACO has provided a lump sum of 500 USD for each of the 31 families who have built huts. and 800 USD for the 9 families who built solid housing. However, the families of the police consider that this sum is not sufficient to allow them to find other accommodation.

Some families accepted the proposed sum, while others refused, demanding a larger sum. They decided to protest until they won their case, based on the fact that they work for the Congolese state and that their situation was not taken into account.

This situation testifies to the importance of the living and working conditions of police officers and their relatives in the Congolese social context, but also to the difficulty of the authorities in managing social situations with tact and resolution. The authorities are therefore invited to take these difficulties into account and find more balanced solutions for all stakeholders.
