The Games of La Francophonie Kinshasa 2023: an exceptional meeting of sport and culture

From July 28 to August 6, 2023, Kinshasa will be the scene of a major event: the ninth edition of the Francophone Games. This sporting and cultural event, dedicated to the youth of French-speaking countries, will bring together nearly 2,500 talents aged 18 to 35, from the 88 States and Governments of La Francophonie. Athletes and artists will thus compete in various events, in a spirit of fairness, solidarity and excellence.

France, committed since the creation of the Games of La Francophonie, will be present in force during this edition. A delegation of sixty people, including athletes, artists and supervisors, will join Kinshasa to proudly represent the country. The Minister of Sports and the Olympic and Paralympic Games, Amélie Oudéa-Castéra, will also be there to support the French athletes and attend the opening ceremony.

Among the key sporting disciplines of these Games, judo and wrestling will occupy an important place. France will hire high-level athletes in these two disciplines, which have already enabled young talents to emerge on the international scene in the past.

But the Games of La Francophonie are not limited to sport. Culture will also be honoured, with eight cultural disciplines represented: digital creation, painting, sculpture, photography, creative dance, literature, storytelling and song. Promising French artists will compete in these different categories, thus contributing to this unique event.

Beyond the competitive aspect, the Games of La Francophonie are also an opportunity to promote exchanges between young Francophones from around the world. It is a real space of solidarity and expression, allowing participants to share their cultures, their experiences and their common aspirations.

These Francophone Games Kinshasa 2023 are of particular importance, as they are a milestone in the run-up to the XIX Francophonie Summit, which will be held in France in the fall of 2024. France, by actively supporting this event, reaffirms its commitment towards culture and sport, as well as its desire to strengthen ties with the countries of the African continent.
