The importance of raising awareness against misinformation: the example of the Congolese army in Eringeti
Disinformation is a scourge that can have serious consequences for society. In order to fight against this phenomenon, the Congolese army recently organized an awareness campaign in Eringeti, in the territory of Beni, in North Kivu. This initiative aims to inform the population about the dangers of disinformation and to encourage collaboration with the defense and security forces to put an end to insecurity in the region.
During this sensitization, the spokesperson for the Sokola 1 military operations, Captain Anthony Mwalushayi, stressed the importance of not being manipulated by misinformation. He explained that the enemies, in this case the ADF rebels, take advantage of this misinformation to facilitate their actions. He therefore urged the public to be wary of unverified information and to actively collaborate with the army to block the spread of false news.
Awareness also focused on the intoxication of war, that is to say the manipulation of information in the context of the conflict. Captain Mwalushayi pointed out that the enemy can be helped unwittingly by people who communicate without realizing the consequences of their actions. It is therefore crucial to be vigilant and to favor the truth in the dissemination of information.
The participants in this sensitization welcomed the themes discussed during the forum. In particular, they became aware of the politicization of war and the presence of traitors in both civilian and military ranks. The population understood the importance of solidarity and of strengthening the knowledge of civilians on the operations carried out by the army in the region.
At the same time, it should be noted that the Congolese army continues its actions on the ground to ensure the safety of the inhabitants. Recently, 17 people were released in Ndalya, in the neighboring province of Ituri. These actions bear witness to the army’s commitment to fighting insecurity and protecting the population.
It is essential to emphasize the importance of such awareness-raising initiatives against misinformation. In a world where information circulates rapidly on the Internet and social networks, it is essential to encourage responsible consumption of information and rigorous fact-checking
