“Telecoms subcontracting in the DRC: Large companies are committed to cleaning up the market to create a real Congolese middle class”

Subcontracting in the telecommunications sector in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) was at the center of an important working session between the Director General of the Regulatory Authority for Subcontracting in the Private Sector (ARSP) , the Honorable Miguel Kashal Katemb, and the heads of major telecom companies, including Vodacom, Airtel, Africell, Orange, Microcom and ISPA. The objective of this meeting was to clean up the outsourcing markets in the telecommunications sector, in accordance with President Félix-Antoine TSHISEKEDI’s vision of creating a real Congolese middle class.

Telecommunications companies support this vision of the Head of State which will create a middle class and, therefore, stimulate the whole of Congolese society, as well as all consumers. They have also shown themselves open to the control of the ARSP, insofar as this will be done in compliance with the Law on subcontracting. Company officials praised the openness of the ARSP Director General and assured that the control would take place in a harmonious framework and in good collaboration.

The director general of the ARSP launched, three weeks ago, a large-scale control in all sectors of the national economy in order to enforce the rules of subcontracting. This initiative will clean up subcontracting markets and create a fairer and more balanced economy in the DRC
