News in Kasai Oriental: A delegation of finance inspectors poorly received by the provincial authorities
In Kasai Oriental, a delegation of finance inspectors was recently sent under the supervision of the IGF (Inspection Générale des Finances). However, this management control mission was met with strong opposition from the provincial authorities.
Testimonies, videos and viral images clearly show that the governor of the province, Patrick Mathias Kabeya Matshi Abidi, vigorously opposed this control mission, arguing that a control of the court of accounts is already in progress in the region.
According to sources close to the governorate, the inspectors sent as part of this mission were expelled manu militari from the governor’s premises and were even threatened by the police present on the spot.
The first president of the Court of Auditors, however, declared that his jurisdiction has not mandated any control mission in Kasai Oriental. He also clarified that the letter referring to a mission to audit the finances of the province does not in any way constitute a mission order, and that it was even canceled by another official letter.
These developments clearly demonstrate the governor’s desire to conceal his mismanagement and to threaten the physical integrity of the inspectors based on false arguments.
This situation aroused strong reactions, calling the governor a “gangster”. Many executives and activists of his party, the UDPS, as well as members of his entourage, openly criticized his actions and poor governance.
These events also raise questions about the existence of bank accounts created in the name of the province, through which transit large sums whose destination remains unknown.
This case in Kasai Oriental highlights the importance of transparency and accountability in the management of public finances
