The situation in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) does not seem to be improving, despite the efforts of the East African Community (EAC). Heads of state of this organization met in Bujumbura and condemned the violations of the ceasefire decreed in Luanda and Nairobi.
EAC member countries have ordered their regional force to take measures to stop renewed hostilities, safeguard and maintain areas emptied by M23 terrorists and other armed groups, and protect civilians and support the return internally displaced persons.
However, the DRC government denounced the arrival of Rwandan troops in support of M23 terrorists, preparing to attack the city of Goma. The Congolese armed forces called the national and international community, MONUSCO, the various verification mechanisms and the regional force of the EAC to witness.
The fragility of security in the DRC is a growing concern for the various actors involved. Organizations highlight the need to fight against impunity and support witnesses of violence. Others offer economic solutions, such as special economic zones, to pacify conflict-affected areas.
Political tensions are also increasing, as evidenced by the arrest of Salmon Idi Kalonda Della, Moise Katumbi’s right-hand man. Despite these multiple challenges, inspiring initiatives are being put in place, such as the Young Congolese Entrepreneurs Fair, a platform for innovative projects.
These topics are covered in various articles on Fatshi Metrie’s blog, allowing a better understanding of the challenges of the situation in the DRC.
