Urgent works in the transport sector require immediate funding from the government in the Democratic Republic of Congo. President Félix Tshisekedi recently underlined this issue during the hundred and fifth meeting of the Council of Ministers.
According to the government spokesman, Patrick Muyaya, the President insisted on the finalization of several urgent files, in particular those related to the marking works of the tributaries of the Régie des Voies Fluviales (RVF) in Kindu and Kongolo. This work would contribute to reviving and securing river transport in the DRC, a sector that is still largely under-exploited despite the natural hydrographic network from which the country benefits.
The report of the Minister of Transport was also mentioned by the President of the Republic, highlighting other projects requiring public funds. These include dredging works in Kalemie and Kinshasa, as well as the construction of a spoil barge in Kinshasa. The President also mentioned the rehabilitation of the Bangoka air terminal in Kisangani and the airstrip at Kolwezi airport.
In order to carry out these projects, President Tshisekedi asked the Minister of Transport, Ways of Communication and Disenclavement, in collaboration with the Minister of Finance, to act quickly and ensure that these files succeed.
Carrying out these infrastructure works in the transport sector is crucial for the economic development of the DRC. By improving waterways, airports and transport-related infrastructure, the country will be able to take full advantage of its natural resources and thus stimulate economic growth.
It is therefore important that the government pay particular attention to these projects and mobilize the resources necessary for their implementation. River transport, in particular, represents an efficient and inexpensive means of transporting goods across the country, and its revival will help strengthen the economy and create jobs.
In conclusion, urgent projects in the transport sector in the DRC require immediate attention and adequate financing. President Tshisekedi stressed their importance during the Council of Ministers meeting, and it is essential that the government acts quickly to carry out this work and stimulate the economic development of the country
