“The Armed Forces of the DRC retake a strategic position from the Mai-Mai/Yira militiamen in North Kivu: a major victory for regional security!”

DRC ARMED FORCES TAKE BACK A STRATEGIC POSITION FROM MAI-MAI/YIRA MILITICIANS IN LUBERO TERRITORY, NORTH KIVU

On the night of Saturday to Sunday July 23, 2023, the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC) successfully carried out a military operation against the Mai-Mai/Yira militiamen in the territory of Lubero, located in the North Province -Kivu. After a confrontation lasting about twenty minutes, the FARDC succeeded in retaking the position of the militiamen on Muhola hill, along the road between Butembo and Mangurejipa.

Captain Anthony Mualushayi Mbombo, who communicated this information to ACTU7.CD, said that during the operation, four militiamen were neutralized and a large quantity of military and police effects were seized. This victory demonstrates the FARDC’s commitment to fighting armed groups and ensuring security in the region.

However, the regular army does not intend to stop there. It is actively pursuing its operations against militiamen and other resisters of the Disarmament, Demobilization, Community and Security Recovery Process (PDDRCS). This initiative aims to disarm and reintegrate combatants into civilian life, while ensuring the stability and security of the population.

This FARDC victory is a step forward in the fight against the armed groups raging in the region. It demonstrates the determination of the Congolese army to protect its citizens and restore order in the areas affected by the conflict. The efforts of the FARDC in the North Kivu region are essential for the consolidation of peace and the development of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

It is important to emphasize that the fight against armed groups in the DRC cannot be resolved solely by military means. Long-term solutions are needed to promote reconciliation, economic development and access to basic services in conflict-affected areas. The international community must continue to support the DRC in its efforts to restore peace and stability in the country.

The FARDC continue to show courage and determination in the fight against armed groups in the DRC. Their commitment is essential to ensure the safety and well-being of local populations. We hope that this victory will mark the beginning of a new era of peace and stability in the North Kivu region.
