The Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) recently announced the launch of an operation to gradually issue duplicate voter cards. From August 2, voters will be able to obtain a duplicate of their voter card in the event of loss or damage to it.
This operation will take place in the branches of the CENI located in the capitals of each territory and city. Voters who have lost their voter card must first certify this loss to a Judicial Police Officer (OPJ), who will issue them a report of loss. Then, they will have to go to the CENI branch within the jurisdiction of their registration center, with the minutes, to obtain a duplicate request form.
Similarly, voters whose writings on their voter card have been erased or have become illegible can also obtain a duplicate by going to the CENI branch of their registration center and presenting their defective card.
It is important to note that the issuance of duplicate voter cards is free at the CENI branches. However, the CENI warns against the networks of producers of false duplicate voter cards and calls on the competent services to dismantle them and prosecute the perpetrators.
In addition, the CENI also invites public and private services that have forgotten or abandoned voter cards in their possession, as well as anyone who has found a lost voter card, to deposit them at the headquarters of the electoral institution, to the provincial executive secretariats or to the territorial or urban branches.
This operation of issuing duplicate voter cards aims to enable all voters to participate actively in the next elections and to guarantee the smooth running of the electoral process. It offers a solution for voters who have lost or damaged their voter card, allowing them to exercise their right to vote under the best conditions.
It is therefore essential for each voter concerned to take the necessary measures to obtain a duplicate of their voter card and to ensure that they have the documents required to make this request to the competent CENI branch
