“Violent opposition to Tshikapa: LUCHA demands the immediate resignation of the mayor”

Faustin Lumuluabu, Mayor of the city of Tshikapa, is currently facing strong opposition from the citizen movement fight for change (LUCHA). In a recently published press release, LUCHA accuses the urban authority and its deputy of having violated the 30 principles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights during the demonstrations organized by the movement. The purpose of these marches was to ask for a reduction in the drinking water bill at REGIDESO and the restoration of water in the Kélé hill.

According to LUCHA, these demonstrations were illegally banned and violently repressed by the police forces under the orders of the mayor of the city. The citizen movement also denounces the incompetence of Faustin Lumuluabu since his arrival at the town hall last January. The city of Tshikapa faces many problems such as insecurity, insalubrity, erosion heads and urban crime.

Faced with this situation, LUCHA demands the immediate resignation of Mayor Faustin Lumuluabu and his deputy Jean Pierre Ntumba. The movement also announces large-scale demonstrations in the city to pressure the authorities into resigning.

It is important to emphasize that this citizens’ movement plays a key role in the defense of human rights and the promotion of change in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Their commitment testifies to the will of citizens to make their voices heard and to fight against injustice.

It is essential to closely monitor the development of this situation in Tshikapa, as it reflects the challenges faced by many Congolese cities in terms of governance and respect for fundamental rights. The needs of the population must be taken into account and sustainable solutions must be found to improve the quality of life of citizens.

In conclusion, the struggle for change in Tshikapa shows that citizens’ movements have a crucial role to play in promoting transparent and equitable governance. We hope that LUCHA’s demands will be taken into account and that concrete measures will be taken to meet the needs of the population
