“The worrying situation of displaced persons in the Babyali-Tchabi chiefdom: an urgent appeal to the government to facilitate their return”

In recent news, the situation of displaced civilians in the Babyali-Tchabi chiefdom, located in the territory of Irumu, has raised serious concerns. Since the year 2020, these populations have had to flee their villages due to the horrors of the war raging in the region. Today, they encounter enormous difficulties in returning to their localities, in particular because of transport problems.

According to Étienne Babanilau, head of the Babyali-Tchabi chiefdom, many displaced people are currently in Komanda, in the Walendu-Bindi chiefdom, as well as in Bunia. He is pleading with the provincial government to take measures to facilitate the repatriation of these people to Tchabi.

The security situation seems relatively calm in several of the villages of the chiefdom, which is prompting the displaced to express their desire to return to their places of origin. However, the means of transport are lacking, which makes their return difficult, if not impossible.

It should be noted that the Banyali-Tchabi chiefdom had been abandoned for nearly two years following repeated incursions by Ugandan terrorists from the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) group and their allies. It was not until the end of 2022 that the inhabitants began to gradually return to the region.

It is essential that the provincial government take concrete measures to meet the needs of the displaced populations and facilitate their return to the Babyali-Tchabi chiefdom. Support in terms of transport and security is essential to enable these people to rebuild their lives in a stable and secure environment.

In conclusion, the situation of displaced civilians in the Babyali-Tchabi chiefdom is worrying. It is crucial that concrete actions be taken to facilitate their return to their villages of origin. Security and means of transport are key aspects to take into account to allow these populations to return to a normal and peaceful life
