“The soap opera of Claudine Masamba’s legacy: a family saga full of twists and turns”

The soap opera of the taking hostage of the legacy of Claudine Masamba by her brothers continues to fuel discussions and debates. Since December 2022, the Tribunal de Grande Instance of Kinshasa / Matete has been trying to resolve this family conflict which revolves around the fraudulent sale of an inheritance.

Claudine Masamba, dissatisfied with this illegal sale, decided to appeal to the courts to have her rights as heiress restored and to obtain the release of joint ownership. However, the case is struggling to move forward due to various delaying maneuvers on the part of his brothers.

During the hearing on December 23, 2022, it was revealed that some of Claudine Masamba’s brothers, residing abroad, had not been properly informed of the ongoing proceedings. This resulted in a regularization of the meaning to reach them.

In April 2023, during another hearing, a new surprise appeared with the alleged non-significance of one of the brothers, named Rémy Masamba. Difficulty in reaching him caused a delay of four months, but in the end he was successfully reached.

However, during the hearing on July 18, 2023, a notice of appeal filed by one of Alidor Masamba’s lawyers questions the proper referral to the court, claiming that the latter was never properly informed of the proceedings.

For Claudine Masamba, these are maneuvers aimed at delaying the exit from joint ownership and preventing her from accessing her inheritance. She suspects her brothers of wanting to sell off all the property of the Masamba estate for their sole benefit. She does not hide her dismay at this situation which is tarnishing the reputation of the family and calls for the intervention of the institutions of the Republic to assert her rights.

This case highlights the difficulties and obstacles that Congolese families can face when it comes to settling inheritance issues. It also raises questions about the possible influence of a dark hand seeking to keep the situation as it is.

The saga of Claudine Masamba’s legacy is still far from over and will continue to fuel conversations. It is essential that justice be able to act impartially and transparently to find a fair resolution to this family conflict
