In an official statement, the Command of the Republican Guard of the Democratic Republic of Congo announced a physical endurance march which will take place this Saturday, July 22. This military exercise will take place in several cities of the country, including Kinshasa, Lubumbashi, Kolwezi and Kalemie.
According to Major Adélard Hanga, press officer of the Republican Guard, the soldiers will participate in this march with light combat equipment. In Kinshasa, two routes have been chosen: the first will leave from the Ngaba roundabout to the Limete interchange, passing through Mount Ngafula and UPN, to then join the Tshatshi camp. The second column will pass by Lumumba and June 30 boulevards in Limete before also arriving at the Tshatshi camp.
This physical endurance march aims to strengthen the physical condition of the troops of the Republican Guard, but it is also of particular importance given the imminent organization of the 9th Games of La Francophonie in Kinshasa. Indeed, the Republican Guard was selected to ensure the security of the various sites during this major event.
In this worrying security context, the Congolese authorities have called on this elite unit known for its rigor and professionalism. Thus, the physical endurance march of the Republican Guard marks an act of deterrence against any attempt to disrupt the games.
It should be noted that despite the presence of troops in the streets of the cities concerned, the staff of the Republican Guard assured the populations that they will be able to go about their business freely.
In conclusion, the physical endurance march of the Republican Guard of the DRC is an important military exercise which aims to strengthen the physical condition of the soldiers and to ensure a deterrent presence during the 9th Games of La Francophonie. With its professionalism and rigor, the Republican Guard is preparing to play an essential role in the security of this major event for the Congolese capital
