The Francophonie Games are fast approaching and Kinshasa is preparing to host this major sporting and cultural event. Just eight days before the opening ceremony, the ambassadors of France, Switzerland, Canada and Senegal, accompanied by members of the Congolese government, made an inspection visit to the venues that will host the Games.
The delegation began its visit with the Stade des Martyrs, then went to the Tata Raphaël site and the University of Kinshasa, where many athletes reside. The observation on the ground was positive, with general satisfaction with the completion of the work on all the sites.
The government spokesman, Patrick Muyaya, expressed confidence in the smooth running of this major meeting of Francophone youth. According to him, the essentials have been done and the country is ready to host sports competitions in modern conditions.
Indeed, these Games of La Francophonie represent an opportunity for the DRC to acquire quality sports infrastructure, which it has lacked since its independence. The investments made within this framework will enable the country to host international competitions in various disciplines.
The visit of the ambassadors and the members of the government made it possible to note the viability of the lodgings reserved for the athletes at the University of Kinshasa. The football pitches, basketball pitches and the Olympic swimming pool have been renovated to serve as training areas for representatives of the various participating countries.
As for the Tata Raphaël Stadium, which was initially to host the games village, it was pointed out that certain centers, such as the dispensary and the restaurant, could be ready on time.
The Games of La Francophonie therefore promise to be an exceptional sporting and cultural event, offering the DRC the opportunity to position itself on the international scene and to strengthen its French-speaking influence
