The 2023 Francophone Games in Kinshasa: a major edition for the DRC
Just ten days before the start of the 9th Francophonie Games, a delegation made up of the Minister of Communication, Patrick Muyaya, the Minister of Sports François Kabulo mwana Kabulo, the Director of the Francophonie and other personalities made an inspection visit to the sites concerned by the event. This visit aimed to check the progress of the works and the preparation of the infrastructures to host the competition.
The visit started at the Martyrs sports stadium, where all the facilities are ready to host the various competitions. At the Tâta Raphaël stadium, the laying of the synthetic turf, the Judo room and freestyle wrestling have already been finalized, while the tennis court is being finished. The prefabricated buildings for the accommodation of the participants will not be able to be operational before the start of the games, but the catering room, the dispensary and the accreditation room are already available.
The UNIKIN site, meanwhile, is fully ready to welcome the athletes. The latter are already housed in good conditions, with food adapted to their needs. The water is flowing and the wifi connection is functional, thus ensuring a comfortable stay for the participants.
Speaking to the media, government spokesman Patrick Muyaya stressed the importance of these games for the DRC. He recalled that the DRC had inherited the organization of the event only two years ago, and that all the sites were built within tight deadlines. He also thanked all the compatriots and companies who have invested in the construction of these infrastructures.
This edition of the Francophonie Games therefore represents a great challenge for the DRC, but also a unique opportunity to have new modern sports infrastructures. After the week of the games, the DRC will be able to benefit from these facilities for the development of sport in the country.
In conclusion, the inspection visit confirmed that the sites of the Francophonie Games are ready to host the competition. The DRC is preparing to offer a memorable experience to the participants, by providing them with quality facilities. This edition of the Francophonie Games represents a key moment for the DRC, which will be able to benefit sustainably from these new sports infrastructures
