Title: Inclusive governance in Kasai: a project for a better future
Introduction :
The province of Kasai in the Democratic Republic of Congo faces many socio-economic challenges that hinder its development. To remedy these problems, the United Nations Human Rights Office (UNJHRO), UN Women and the NGO World Vision have set up the Inclusive Governance Project in Kasai (GIK). As part of this project, various civil society actors, especially young people and women, have been trained in organizing advocacy with political and administrative authorities. The aim is to improve accountability and create positive change in the region. This article will address some of the concerns raised during this workshop and highlight the importance of inclusive governance for the future of Kasai.
Development :
The workshop organized in the province of Kasai brought together civil society actors, young people and women, eager to make their voices heard and to actively participate in the development process of their respective entities. During this workshop, participants identified several major issues affecting the region. Insecurity, particularly in the town of Tshikapa, is a major concern. Residents feel in danger and fear for their daily safety. The shortage of drinking water is another glaring problem, which impacts the life of all communities. Finally, the issue of insalubrity in the city is a concern that must be taken into account to ensure a healthy environment worth living in.
The importance of mobilizing civil society, especially youth and women, to address these issues cannot be underestimated. The representatives of these groups are committed to working actively to promote the development of the respective entities. Advocacy with political and administrative authorities is an effective way to voice their concerns and promote positive change. The participants were trained during the workshop on advocacy techniques and created terms of reference containing their demands. They were also encouraged to persevere and continue their commitment to a better future.
Conclusion :
The inclusive governance project in Kasaï plays a crucial role in improving the living conditions of the inhabitants of the province. By giving civil society actors, in particular young people and women, the necessary skills to organize effective advocacy, the project aims to improve the accountability of the authorities and to solve the socio-economic problems that hinder the development of Kasaï. It is essential to support these initiatives and to promote the role of civil society in the reconstruction of the region.
