“Opening up South Kivu: road rehabilitation work resumes to promote the socio-economic development of the region”

At the heart of the news in the province of South Kivu, the issue of road infrastructure is the subject of particular attention. Governor Théo NGWABIDJE KASI recently met with the Minister of State, Minister of Infrastructure and Public Works, Alexis GISARO Muvunyi, to discuss the challenges facing the province in terms of roads.

The meeting between the two parties took place shortly before the resumption of the modernization works of the RN5, on a section going from PKO place of independence to KAMANYOLA. While only 15 km out of the 55 km planned have been rehabilitated so far, the Governor of South Kivu has obtained the assurance of Minister GISARO that work will resume next week.

The main objective is to rehabilitate this road to FIZI in order to open up the region and allow the inhabitants to trade with the provinces of South Kivu, Maniema and Tanganyika.

Besides the RN5, the Governor also informed the Minister of the state of the other national roads in the province, such as BUKAVU-GOMA, BUKAVU-MWENGA, MITI-HOMBO-BUNYAKIRI, BUKAVU-BURHALE SHABUNDA and Idjwi North to Idjwi South, all of which require complete rehabilitation.

Minister Alexis GISARO MUVUNYI, originally from South Kivu, was attentive to the Governor’s concerns and promised him his involvement in finding appropriate solutions to these problems directly under his ministry. He also said he would conduct advocacy with other Congolese government partners.

In addition, the Minister announced the forthcoming rehabilitation of 90 km of the RN3 MITI-HOMBO-BUNYAKIRI by the company N.G.E., which is currently in the preparatory phase before the start of the works.

Governor Théo NGWABIDJE KASI expressed his satisfaction with these advances and paid tribute to the President of the Republic Félix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo for his commitment to providing the Democratic Republic of Congo with modern road infrastructure.

It is obvious that the development of road infrastructure in the province of South Kivu is of paramount importance to improve connectivity, facilitate trade and contribute to the socio-economic development of the region. The joint efforts of the provincial government and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Public Works will make it possible to meet the needs of the population and promote the opening up of the province
