The Congolese Minister of Industry, Julien Paluku Kahongya, took stock of the progress of the work in the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) of Musienene during his visit to the site on Friday 14 July 2023. Located in the territory of Lubero, in North Kivu, this SEZ is experiencing significant progress.
During his visit, the Minister was able to observe the finalization of studies on the development plan, the expansion of the site and the registration of companies wishing to set up their industrial units in the SEZ. He said he was satisfied with the progress of the works and called on the local notability to support the efforts made to make this Special Economic Zone operational.
Indeed, since his last visit in March 2023, Julien Paluku has seen real progress. Electricity is already available on the site, the studies for the development plan of the various roads have been carried out and the space has been enlarged, now reaching more than 300 hectares. Moreover, more than 10 large companies have already applied to settle in the SEZ.
The Minister also exchanged with the notability of Musienene on the finalization of this special economic zone. He explained to them that it usually takes 5 to 10 years for a SEZ to take shape. He took the example of the Makulu SEZ, which started in 2012 and will see its first production in 2023.
