News: Call for pacification of the Bwito region in North Kivu
The population of Bwito, in the territory of Rutshuru in North Kivu, is currently living a real nightmare. For three days, violent clashes have pitted the rebel group M23 against the Wazalendo militiamen, causing a real tragedy for the inhabitants of the region.
Faced with this alarming situation, the population of Bwito called for the deployment of East African Community (EAC) forces in their region in an attempt to separate the two conflicting groups. This request is motivated by the need to protect the civilian population who are paying the high price of this violence.
Issac Kibira, a notable from Bwito, insists on the responsibility of the Congolese government in this critical situation. He calls on the authorities to assume their responsibilities and to ask the various armed groups, in particular the EAC, to respect their commitments to protect the population.
According to local sources, the M23 rebels have erected several strategic positions around Bukombo-centre, notably in Kavumu, Rubona and Kazuba. These armed clashes caused significant destruction in the region, putting the lives of many inhabitants in danger.
The situation is all the more alarming as the fighting is approaching Mashango, towards Munena-Rutshiba, with detonations of heavy weapons that can be heard as far as Bambo and Nyanzale. It is therefore urgent to intervene to stop this violence and protect the civilian population.
Beyond this call for EAC intervention, it is essential that all stakeholders, including the Congolese government, work together to find a peaceful solution to this conflict. It is essential to guarantee the security and stability of the Bwito region, and to allow the inhabitants to live in peace and serenity.
It is time to act and put an end to this violence which is devastating the Bwito region. The population deserves to live in safety and dignity, and it is incumbent on all actors involved to do their utmost to achieve this.
