New Congolese National Police (PNC) animators appointed by Félix Tshisekedi
Since their appointment by the Head of State Félix Tshisekedi more than three months ago, the new leaders of the Congolese National Police (PNC) are finally preparing to take up their duties. This was announced by the VPM, Minister of Interior, Security and Customary Affairs, Peter Kazadi, during a weekly briefing held on Monday July 10, 2023.
According to Peter Kazadi, once the new team is in place, the objective will be to reduce police harassment and traffic jams, especially in the city of Kinshasa. He added that the president had finalized the appointments and all that remained was to notify the new city commanders. This new National Police Command team is ready to bring change and implement new actions to improve the daily lives of Congolese.
Peter Kazadi also appealed for cooperation with the population, encouraging citizens to report police officers who engage in inappropriate behavior. He assured that the zero tolerance policy would be applied and that the police who bother the population will be arrested and brought to justice. Since taking office, Peter Kazadi has pledged to be rigorous and to fight against abuse of power within the Congolese national police.
This reshuffle within the PNC follows the appointment of a new command by President Félix Tshisekedi last April. Benjamin Alongaboni has been appointed as the new Commissioner General of Police, succeeding Dieudonné Amuli Bahigwa. Other police officials, such as Sylvano Kasongo, Tshibangu Tumbila Elias and Ndonda Kindji Jean-Bosco, were also promoted to key positions.
With the arrival of this new management team, there is great hope of seeing a significant improvement in the security situation and a better relationship between the police and the Congolese population. It remains to be seen in the coming months the concrete actions implemented by this new command to achieve these objectives and meet the expectations of the population.
