The multiplication of kidnappings in Kinshasa is causing real psychosis among the inhabitants of the Congolese capital. The testimonies collected by the editorial staff of CONGOPROFOND.NET reveal growing concern and a feeling of abandonment on the part of the authorities.
Cases of kidnappings have been reported in different parts of the city. Marcel Muamba, a resident of the commune of Masina, tells the story of his cousin who was kidnapped by armed men aboard a yellow taxi, commonly known as “Ketch”. After three days of detention, the family had to pay a ransom of $500 by Mobile money to obtain his release. Unfortunately, in other neighborhoods, some kidnappings ended tragically with the discovery of the bodies of the victims.
The police recently arrested a group of bandits responsible for these kidnappings, but this has not stopped the kidnapping cases from continuing. This situation has plunged the population into fear and uncertainty, calling into question the effectiveness of law enforcement in the fight against this form of crime.
Distrust has now settled in the capital, making it difficult to identify the taxis that serve as cover for the kidnappers. Taxi drivers, who see their livelihood threatened, are also victims of this situation.
Faced with this worrying reality, the inhabitants of Kinshasa call on the competent authorities, in particular the national and provincial Ministers of the Interior, to take drastic measures to put an end to these criminal and inhuman practices. The population is impatiently awaiting concrete actions to restore security and confidence in the city.
It is essential that political leaders take stock of the urgency of the situation and put in place effective strategies to combat this wave of kidnappings. The safety of citizens must be an absolute priority and adequate measures must be taken to protect the population and put an end to this psychosis which currently reigns in Kinshasa.
It is therefore imperative that the authorities redouble their efforts in the fight against this scourge, in particular by strengthening the capacities of the police and by implementing effective prevention and repression measures. The inhabitants of Kinshasa need to regain serenity and live without the constant fear of kidnappings. The security and stability of the Congolese capital depends on it.
