The article on the news of the day concerns the request of the non-governmental organization “The Dynamics of the fight against human trafficking and human trafficking” (DCTH) concerning the transfer of the convicts in the case of kidnappings in Kinshasa to prisons far from the Kinshasa Penitentiary and Rehabilitation Center (CPRK).
Following the verdict handed down by the Tribunal de grande instance of Kinshasa/Gombe, which condemned 27 kidnappers, including 4 police officers, for association of criminals, armed robbery and murder, the DCTH asks that these convicts serve their sentences in prisons located far from the Congolese capital.
The situation of kidnappings, murders and armed robberies which shook Kinshasa recently has sown psychosis among the population. The perpetrators of these acts were mainly young people who operated through taxi cars commonly known as “Ketch”. They demanded large ransoms from the families of the victims, threatening to eliminate them in the event of non-payment.
The court’s verdict condemned the culprits to sentences ranging from the death penalty to 10 years’ principal penal servitude, as well as the payment of damages. However, the DCTH considers that these convictions are not enough and requests their transfer to prisons far from Kinshasa, such as Buluo (Kolwezi) or Angenga (Mongala), to guarantee the safety of the population.
This tragic event caused desolation and distrust among the inhabitants of Kinshasa. Some question the effectiveness of justice by wondering if the real sponsors of these acts have been apprehended. The population of Kinshasa therefore remains suspicious, thus accentuating the psychosis.
It is essential that the Congolese authorities take additional measures to ensure the safety of the population and to punish those responsible for these criminal acts. The transfer of convicts to prisons far from Kinshasa could be a solution to guarantee this security and deter other individuals from committing similar crimes.
The fight against human trafficking and human trafficking is a major challenge for the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and it is essential that the public authorities put in place effective measures to combat this scourge. The request of the DCTH is legitimate and deserves to be taken into consideration in order to protect the population and guarantee justice for the victims.
In conclusion, it is necessary that the Congolese authorities respond to the request of the DCTH and ensure that those convicted in the case of kidnappings in Kinshasa serve their sentences in prisons far from the capital. This will make it possible to strengthen the security of the population and to fight effectively against human trafficking and human trafficking in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
