Recent news in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has been marked by an important appointment. Indeed, the artist-songwriter Barbara Kanam has been appointed Director General of the Cultural Promotion Fund (FPC) by the Head of State.
The FPC, created in 1987, is an organization under the supervision of the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage of the DRC. It enjoys management autonomy and its mission is to finance national cultural and artistic activities. Barbara Kanam will therefore be responsible for implementing the Fund’s intervention methods as defined by the Ministerial Order.
This nomination only highlights the impressive career of Barbara Kanam. With a degree in Economics, a patent in Theology and a License in International Commerce, she is also Doctor Honoris Causa of the University of Miami. In 2022, she was elevated to the title of Goodwill Ambassador for the Promotion of Climate Actions in the DRC by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
Barbara Kanam thus joins a team made up of Ngoy Dioko Emany, appointed Chairman of the Board of Directors, and Didier Masela, appointed Managing Director of FPC. This new direction will be responsible for contributing to the development and promotion of culture and art in the DRC.
This appointment therefore marks an important step for Barbara Kanam’s career and highlights the interest shown by the Congolese authorities in cultural and artistic promotion in the country. We can now look forward to the actions and projects that the new FPC team will put in place to support artists and contribute to the development of Congolese culture
