News of July 7, 2023: Visit of the East African Community Regional Force Technical Assessment Team to Rumangabo and Kibumba.
The East African Community Regional Force (EACRF) Mandate Technical Assessment Team continued its field visit on Thursday 6 July. On the program: the locality of Kibumba in the territory of Nyiragongo and Rumangabo in Rutshuru.
Accompanied by the head of the delegation and Personal Representative of the Chief of Staff of the National Defense Force of Burundi, General-Major Sibomana Ignace, the team first visited Rumangabo, considered to be the site of pre- cantonment of the M23.
The delegation then went to Kibumba where it had discussions with the Commander of the Kenyan troops based in the area. During these meetings, the team learned about the current security situation in the region.
In addition to these visits, the head of the delegation was also able to meet the head of the locality of Kabaya as well as his group from the Kisigari groupement, before going to the pre-cantonment site of the M23.
It should be noted that the last stage of the visit is planned for Mubambiro and Kilolirwe in the territory of Masisi, where contingents of the Regional Force of the East African Community are deployed.
This field visit by the technical assessment team demonstrates the importance attached by the East African Community Regional Force to security in the region. Exchanges with the commanders on the spot make it possible to obtain a concrete view of the situation and to assess the measures to be taken to reinforce stability.
It will be interesting to follow the conclusions of this technical evaluation and the actions that will result from it, in order to guarantee greater security in the North Kivu region in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
