“Félix Tshisekedi expresses his greatest regret and his greatest satisfaction during his five-year term as head of the DRC”

Félix Tshisekedi, President of the Democratic Republic of Congo, recently answered questions from his compatriots during a press conference. When asked what his biggest regret of his five-year term was, his answer surprised many people. He mentioned that the end of the FCC-Cash coalition was his biggest regret, because he was fully invested in this alliance. Unfortunately, he found that his political partners had remained in their bubble and believed that power was reserved for them.

In 2020, Tshisekedi announced the end of this coalition and the creation of the Sacred Union of the Nation. This decision resulted in a change of majority in Parliament and the formation of a new government. Now, the Sacred Union has become a political platform that aims to grant Tshisekedi a second term and a comfortable majority in parliament in elections scheduled for December.

Despite this regret, Tshisekedi cited the establishment of free primary education as one of his greatest satisfactions. He considers this measure as a constitutional obligation which he succeeded in implementing in the first year of his mandate.

However, it is important to note that the end of the FCC-Cash coalition was not without controversy. Joseph Kabila, Tshisekedi’s predecessor, claimed that this rupture was due to an alleged violation of the constitution in the appointment of certain judges of the Constitutional Court.

Either way, Félix Tshisekedi remains determined to bring about peaceful and fraternal change in Congo
