“Critical meeting between the CENI and the British ambassador to guarantee the fairness and transparency of the elections in the DRC”

In their recent meeting, the President of the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Denis Kadima, and the British Ambassador, Alyson King, discussed the ongoing electoral process in the country. This meeting made it possible to review the preparations for the presidential and legislative elections scheduled for 20 December.

During this fruitful meeting, Alyson King welcomed the exchanges with Denis Kadima and underlined the importance of transparency and credibility in an electoral process. She also underlined Britain’s commitment to working closely with the CENI as a funder for technical support. In addition, the country will provide local observers to increase confidence in the electoral process.

Denis Kadima informed Alyson King of the efforts made by the CENI to ensure the smooth running of the electoral process. He also mentioned the meetings organized with members of the opposition, thus underlining the importance of communication with all stakeholders. Difficulties related to enlistment, particularly in conflict-affected regions, were also discussed.

It is Britain’s will that the December election be conducted in a fair, transparent and inclusive manner. This meeting between Denis Kadima and Alyson King therefore marks a decisive step in the ongoing electoral process in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

With international support and close collaboration between the CENI and international partners, it is hoped that the elections scheduled for December will bring stability and democracy to the country.
