“An agricultural development program in Mpanda boosts local maize production and transforms the community”

Agricultural development program in Mpanda: A success in boosting local maize production

In the heart of the village of Mpanda, located just 7 km from the Laurent-Désiré Kabila center of Kaniama Kasese, an agricultural development program has recently emerged. Thanks to the supervision of the National Service (SN), hundreds of farmers have been able to benefit from support aimed at increasing corn production in the region.

This program was a real success, with the participation of 250 households who invested themselves for a year to obtain impressive results. Indeed, thanks to their efforts and the wise advice of SN specialists, maize production reached a record 400 tonnes, the equivalent of 6,000 bags.

This first experience was not without difficulties, but the National Service and its agents attached to the presidency of the DRC have made every effort to ensure the success of this integrated development program. In-depth sensitization was carried out with the farmers in order to mobilize them and make them aware of the importance of this work.

The results exceeded all expectations, with positive repercussions for the entire community. Indeed, many women in the village have been able to start commercial activities thanks to this abundant production of maize. As for the farmers, they call on the decision-makers to provide them with the necessary means to ensure quality work in future campaigns and avoid any potential failure.

This agricultural development program in Mpanda demonstrates the importance of mentoring and supporting farmers in order to stimulate local production. It is essential to continue to support such initiatives and to promote the sustainable development of agriculture in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
