The Trade Union Confederation of Congo (CSC) wins the trade union elections at the CNSS
The Trade Union Confederation of Congo (CSC) has just won the eighth edition of trade union elections at the National Social Security Fund (CNSS). The purpose of these elections, which took place in Kinshasa on Friday June 7, was to designate the trade union organizations that will represent the workers in the administration of the CNSS.
With 198 votes and 3 seats, the CSC came first ahead of the National Union of Workers of Congo (UNTC) with 139 votes and 2 seats. This is followed by the Nouvelle Dynamique Syndicale (NDS) with 92 votes and 1 seat, the Democratic Confederation of Labor (CDT) with 78 votes and 1 seat, the Alliance des Travailleurs du Congo (ATC) with 63 votes and 1 seat, and finally the Free Workers’ Union (STL) with 51 votes and 1 seat.
According to the president of the CSC, Onautshu Osokonda, the main objective of this victory is to defend the interests and the advantages of the workers of the CNSS. As a representative trade union organization, the CSC is committed to raising the voice of workers to decision-makers and company managers.
These trade union elections saw the participation of twenty trade union organizations in total. The elected organizations will serve for a term extending from 2023 to 2026.
The CNSS, created in 1961 in Kinshasa, is a public institution responsible for the organization of social security in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Its role is to ensure the social protection of workers, particularly in terms of retirement, sickness, accidents at work, and family benefits.
This victory of the CSC in the trade union elections testifies to the importance of the role of trade union organizations in defending the rights and interests of Congolese workers. It also marks an important step in the representativeness of CNSS workers and in their ability to make their voices heard by decision-making bodies
