The Games of La Francophonie 2022, which will take place in Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo, arouse strong reactions. Indeed, the director of the national committee of these games, Isidore Kwandja, said he was surprised by the withdrawal of certain countries just a few weeks before the event.
Some countries cited security, health and infrastructure reasons to justify their withdrawal. However, according to Isidore Kwandja, all these concerns have been taken into account by the Congolese government. Delegations, such as that of Canada, came in January 2023 to discuss these issues and received all the necessary security guarantees.
Despite these withdrawals, many other French-speaking states and territories have confirmed their participation in the Games of La Francophonie, including New Brunswick, Switzerland, Wallonia and France.
The Games of La Francophonie, which will be held from July 28 to August 6, represent a unique opportunity to celebrate the diversity and unity of French-speaking countries through sport, culture and language.
It is unfortunate that some countries have chosen to withdraw from this major event, thus depriving their athletes and artists of this opportunity to excel and represent their country. However, the participation of other countries testifies to the importance of these games for the French-speaking community.
It is crucial to emphasize that the Games of La Francophonie are not only a sports competition, but also a moment of sharing, exchange and friendship between the member countries of La Francophonie. This is an opportunity for athletes and artists to meet, discover each other and forge lasting ties.
Let’s hope that despite the withdrawals, the Games of La Francophonie 2022 will be a success and will strengthen the ties between the participating countries. And wish good luck to all the athletes and artists who will participate in this exceptional event
